Polish cardinal hopes Pope Francis will visit Auschwitz next year

May 29, 2015

Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow has said that he hopes Pope Francis will visit the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz in 2016, when the Pontiff is expected to visit Poland for World Youth Day.

“We hope Pope Francis will come to Auschwitz and deliver a warning to the world by again demonstrating the horrors of war and the camps, so they’ll never recur,” Cardinal Dziwisz told the Polish Catholic news agency KAI. Although plans for a papal visit to Auschwitz are not yet settled, a spokesman for the Polish episcopal conference said that details might be revealed soon.

Pope Francis is expected to visit Poland for World Youth Day, which will be held July 26-31, 2016.
