South Sudan: Christian leaders see 'no moral justification' for continued violence

Christian leaders in South Sudan have joined in a plea for an end to vicious civil strife in the newly independent country, saying that there is “no moral justification for the killing to continue.”

The South Sudan Council of Churches issued a statement denouncing the murder, rape, and torture that have been committed by groups, “most of whom call themselves Christians.” The Christian leaders’ statement conceded that rival factions probably would not heed their call for peace, but said that “we want them, along with the citizens of South Sudan and our friends in the region and the international community, to know that we are watching and we are aware of what is happening.”
