CRS directory removes listing of executive involved in same-sex marriage

May 27, 2015

Just days after the director of the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) said that the agency was “working through” questions about an executive who is a partner in a same-sex marriage, that executive’s name has been taken off a list of CRS leaders.

In April, the Lepanto Institute disclosed that Rick Estridge, the vice-president for overseas finance at CRS, had entered into a same-sex marriage in Maryland in 2013. Last week Carolyn Woo, the newly installed director of the charity, acknowledged that CRS was “working through this,” saying that the proper policy regarding a homosexual executive was a “complex issue.”

The CRS web site, in its listing of executives, no longer includes Estridge’s name.

CRS is the overseas charitable agency sponsored by the US bishops’ conference.

Removing someone's name from a list is not the same thing as correcting a problem. Actually, it's more like hiding the problem.
