Pope, former Mexican president discuss ecology

May 21, 2015

Felipe Calderón, who served as Mexico’s president from 2006 to 2012, met with Pope Francis on May 20 and discussed the upcoming encyclical on ecology, according to Mexican media reports and the Calderón’s own tweets.

Calderón, who chairs the New Climate Economy’s Global Commission on the Economy and Climate, said that “two themes that threaten the well-being of mankind in the future are the gap between rich and poor, and the gap between man and nature. The Pope is contributing powerfully to closing the two.”
