Looking forward to the June 6 visit by Pope Francis to Sarajevo, the Vatican has issued a statistical profile of the Catholic Church in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

There are just under 440,000 Catholics in Bosnia-Herzegovina, making up 11.5% of the country’s population of 3.8 million. There are four dioceses, six bishops, 304 parishes, and 624 priests; as well as 14 religious brothers and 537 female religious.

The Catholic Church operates 16 schools in the country, including one university. There are 29 clinics, orphanages, rest homes, and other centers providing medical help and counseling.

Thank you for the correction, which we have now made in our news item.

This news item copies a mistake in yesterday's Vatican Information Services bulletin. If Catholics number 11.5% of the population of 3.8 million in Bosnia-Herzegovina, that means that there are 440,000 Catholics, ten times the number 44,000. It seems that a zero was dropped off the number by mistake. The VIS and CWN news items should correct this figure. The other figures given, 6 bishops, 304 parishes and 624 priests surely only make sense for the larger figure of 440,000 Catholics.
