Head of conservative Anglican sect receives Pope's message of support

May 18, 2015

Pope Francis has sent a message of support to the new leader of an Anglican group that has split with the Church of England over the ordination of homosexual bishops.

The Pope conveyed his “prayers and support” to Anglican Archbishop Foley Beach, who was installed as leader of the Anglican Church in North America. The group claims to represent the authentic Anglican tradition. The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Justin Welby, does not recognize the group as a part of the Anglican communion.

The Pope’s greetings to the new Anglican leader were relayed through an Anglican prelate from Argentina, Bishop Gregory Venables, with whom the Pontiff had been friendly in Buenos Aires.
