Thousands attend March for Marriage in Washington

April 27, 2015

During an April 25 march in Washington, thousands of people witnessed to marriage as the union of a man and a woman.

“My dear friends, marriage is and can only be the union of one man and one woman,” said Archbishop Joseph Kurtz, the president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and one of the speakers at the march. “Children don’t need experiments; they need the love of their mother and father, wherever possible.”

“In a few days, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the rights of states to protect marriage’s unique meaning,” he added. “Missing from much of the public conversation has been an honest look at the question of what marriage is. Advancing civil discourse depends not upon false caricatures or tactics of intimidation … There must be room in the public square for the witness of lives inspired by the sacrificial love a husband and wife share for their children.”

“President Obama likes to say that no one should lose their job because of who they love,” added Rev. Bill Owens, founder and president of the Coalition of African American Pastors. “What if who they love is Jesus Christ?”
