Pope Francis said recently that he has ordered the opening of the Vatican Archives to shed light on the Church’s actions during the Argentine military dictatorship (1976-83), according to an Argentine media report.
Angela Boitano, president of the Argentine Association of Relatives of the Disappeared, met recently with Pope Francis. She said that the Pontiff also told her that a criticism of the Argentine hierarchy’s actions during the dictatorship is also being prepared.
The Pope served as the Jesuit superior in Argentina from 1973 to 1979.
