Dangerous conditions at St. Patrick's cathedral force repairs, Cardinal Dolan says

April 14, 2015

New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan has revealed that St. Patrick’s cathedral was in dangerous condition before a recent restoration effort began.

“We’re talking about repair, because literally, the stones are falling and literally, our insurance people are saying, ‘If you don’t do some repair, we’re going to have to close it,’?” the cardinal told New York executives.

Cardinal Dolan said that repairs and renovations to the famous cathedral would cost $170 million, of which $100 million has already been raised. He said that he hoped to see the repairs completed before the September visit by Pope Francis.
