Vatican embassy in Washington plans to add security fence before papal visit

April 03, 2015

The Vatican embassy in Washington, DC, has asked local zoning officials to approve construction of a 6-foot high security fence around the embassy grounds, “in anticipation of the visit of His Holiness.”

Embassy officials said that the Secret Service had recommended the fence as one in a series of security measures to be taken before the arrival of Pope Francis in September.

Tentative plans for the fence showed an iron fence with several stone columns on the property at 3339 Massachusetts Avenue in Washington. The zoning board was assured that the fence would be “attractive and compatible with the building on the property.”

At least the Vatican looks at reality through clear lenses. Security measures should be proportional to the threat. Anti-Catholicism in the U.S. has not been stronger in my lifetime. Atheism, agnosticism, and paganism are on the rise. Liberty has become perverted into widespread libertinism. The pastors of the Church are only now beginning to recognize the battle that has been raging against us since sexual revolution of the 1960s. There is no guarantee that the American Church will prevail.
