India: Protestant pastor arrested in Kashmir, charged with fueling sectarian hostility

March 30, 2015

Indian police have arrested a Christian leader in Kashmir, charging him with “fomenting sectarian clashes.”

Rev. Paul Augustine, a representative of the Global Council of Indian Christians, was taken into custody on Srinagar on Sunday, March 29, during church services, the AsiaNews service reports. Islamic leaders accompanied police to make the arrest.

Kashmir is India’s only majority-Muslim state. Christians form a tiny minority.
