After public appearance in St. Louis cancelled at Vatican request, Medjugorje 'seer' holds private event

March 20, 2015

After a public appearance was cancelled at the request of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, one of the “seers” of Medjugorje held a meeting this week in a private home.

Sponsors of the event said that Ivan Dragicevic “consoled 75 people by having his apparition in a private home in the city.” Archbishop Robert Carlson had issued a statement saying that he had been asked by the Vatican “to remind everyone that they are not to participate in events that promote the so-called visionaries of Medjugorje and in particular Mr. Ivan Dragicevic.”

The Medjugorje seers have claimed regular apparitions by the Virgin Mary for decades. The Vatican has instructed pastors not to sponsor or promote events that assume the authenticity of these reported apparitions.

During his private event, ironically, Dragicevic reportedly called for obedience to Vatican instructions. The Vatican has not yet issued any definitive statement on the Medjugorje phenomenon.

I hope the Vatican makes a swift and public announcement now that the investigation has been concluded about these apparitions so the faithful will know what to do. Many people believe in them and have spent much spiritual time and financial resources going to Medjugorje.

Counseling obedience while engaged in egregious disobedience? Medjugorje just disproves itself more and more obviously as time goes on. If nothing else, this will certainly have an end by failing to fulfill its own "secrets" which the purported visionaries may not even have consistent versions of in the first place. This failure will likely unambiguously disprove Medjugorje by its own standards.
