Connecticut priest who sold meth seeks reduced sentence

March 17, 2015

A Connecticut priest who last year pleaded guilty to drug trafficking has asked for a lenient sentence, citing his charitable work.

Msgr. Kevin Wallin, who is now suspended from pastoral work in the Bridgeport diocese, admitted to trading in methamphetamine, after becoming addicted himself. He also purchased an adult video store, apparently hoping to use it to launder the profits of his drug operations.

Msgr. Wallin could face up to 10 years in federal prison. As his sentencing date approaches in federal court, his attorney has filed a plea for a reduced sentence. “The record evidence demonstrates that Kevin Wallin is an extraordinary man whose remarkable character and acts have touched thousands of people," the attorney argued. “He fell from grace and did criminal wrong, but has confessed his crimes and has been working hard to atone for them."

This man used to be the rector of the Bridgeport Diocese cathedral. He had cross-dressing sex parties in the rectory, became a large meth dealer, and ran an adult video shop to launder the money. Whatever prison sentence he gets, I hope that Bridgeport's new bishop, Frank Caggiano, will seek his laicization.
