Papal preacher’s 3rd Lenten sermon

March 16, 2015

Father Raniero Cantalamessa, the Capuchin Franciscan friar who has served as preacher to the papal household since 1980, devoted his three weekly Lenten sermon to “East and West on the Mystery of the Trinity.”

The two sections of his March 13 sermon were entitled “Paul and John: Christ seen from two angles” and “the image of Christ in East and West.”

The preacher to the papal household typically preaches a sermon to the Pope and members of the Roman Curia on Fridays of Advent and Lent. According to the Zenit news agency, the 3rd Lenten sermon was written but not preached because of a March 13 Vatican holiday for the anniversary of Pope Francis’s election.
