Schedule released for papal trip to Naples, Pompeii

March 03, 2015

Pope Francis will make a one-day trip to Pompeii and Naples on Saturday, March 21, the Vatican has announced.

The Pope will travel by helicopter from the Vatican to Pompeii early in the morning. After a visit to the Shrine of Our Lady of Pompeii, he will continue—again by helicopter—to Naples, where he will celebrate an outdoor Mass.

In the afternoon the Pope will visit inmates at a prison at Poggioreale, then travel to the Naples cathedral, where he will venerate the relics of St. Januarius and meet with local clergy and religious. After two more meetings—with sick people and with youth—he will return to Rome in the evening.
