Pope, Curia begin Lenten retreat
February 23, 2015
Pope Francis and members of the Roman Curia have begun their Lenten retreat, which is taking place from February 22 to 27 at a retreat house in Ariccia, a small city near the outskirts of Rome.
The retreat master, Father Bruno Secondin, is a Carmelite priest who teaches at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Father Secondin will preach on the “roots of the Christian faith and the inner strength to live it out consistently,” as well as “embracing an encounter with God and spreading the Gospel,” according to Vatican Radio.
During the Lenten Retreat there will be no papal audiences, and the work of many Vatican offices will be curtailed until Curia leaders return.
