Irish bishop pleads with IRA to disclose site of slain boy's grave

Bishop Liam MacDaid of Clogher, Ireland has issued an appeal to leaders of the Irish Republic Army (IRA) to reveal where a teenage boy was buried after his death in 1975.

Columba McVeigh, a 17-year-old from Northern Ireland, disappeared in 1975. IRA leaders later admitted that McVeigh was among several people who were secretly killed and buried during the “troubles” of the 1970s and 1980s.

Bishop MacDaid asked those responsible to give information about the young man’s burial place to a British-Irish commission that is now searching for the remains of victims. The bishop said that the McVeigh family’s grief has been “deepened almost beyond imagination by the fact that they have no grave to tend, no place to grieve.”
