European bishops should work together to renew missionary zeal, Pope says

January 13, 2015

Pope Francis has sent a message of greetings to representatives of the doctrinal commissions of the European bishops’ conferences, who are meeting this week in Esztergom, Hungary.

The Pope said that he hoped the meeting would help episcopal conferences to take “a collegial approach to various doctrinal and pastoral difficulties that present themselves in Europe today, with the aim of inspiring in the faithful a new missionary zeal and greater openness to the transcendent dimension of life, without which Europe risks losing the very 'humanistic spirit' that it loves and defends.”
