Vatican conference on Haiti earthquake reconstruction
January 09, 2015
Five years after an earthquake devastated the Caribbean nation of Haiti, the Vatican is hosting a conference devoted to reconstruction and the Church’s charitable efforts.
In convoking the January 10 conference, Pope Francis wished to express “ongoing concern for those who continue to suffer as a result of this natural disaster,” according to Vatican Radio.
Cardinal Marc Ouellet, head of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, and Cardinal Robert Sarah, the most recent head of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, will speak to participants, as will Archbishop Thomas Wenski of Miami.
