Papal preacher devotes Advent sermon to peace as God’s gift

December 05, 2014

Father Raniero Cantalamessa, the Capuchin Franciscan friar who has served as preacher to the papal household since 1980, devoted his December 5 Advent sermon to the Pope and the members of the Roman Curia to the theme of peace as the gift of God.

The sermon’s five sections are entitled “we are at peace with God,” “the peace of God promised and given,” “peace, fruit of Christ’s Cross,” “receive the Holy Spirit,” and “be reconciled with God.”

“We leave for our daily work with a question in our mind,” he concluded. “What idea of God the Father is in my heart: that of the world or that of Jesus?”
