Manila announces 5-day holiday during January papal visit

The city of Manila has announced a 5-day holiday during the visit by Pope Francis to the Philippines in January, and the national government may follow suit, the Catholic News Agency reports.
Manila's Mayor Joseph Estrada said that schools would be closed and employees excused from work from January 15 to 19, to ease congestion and security concerns in the city.
Herminio Coloma, the government's communications secretary, said that "we are considering the possible declaration of a holiday" at the national level. "For now, the government's top priority is to ensure the smooth conduct of activities during the papal visit," he said
