Majority of Muslims welcome Pope’s gestures, says Muslim leader
December 04, 2014
Omar Abboud, the former secretary general of the Islamic Center of Argentina, said in a front-page L’Osservatore Romano article that the Pope’s decision to face Mecca while praying silently in an Istanbul mosque is an invitation to “dialogue and fraternity.”
The majority of Muslims, Abboud wrote, “are able to reciprocate.” He also praised the Pontiff’s decision to visit Jordan, Palestine, and Albania, all of which have Muslim majorities.
Abboud added that Muslim leaders have the duty “to guarantee religious liberty to minorities that desire to live in peace.”
