Irish police investigating vandals' attack on 'Carrauntoohil Cross'
December 02, 2014
Irish police are studying a video apparently made by vandals who cut down a 16-foot metal cross that stood on the highest point in Ireland.
The video, which was sent to reporters, showed a man using a grinder to cut through the base of the “Carrauntoohil Cross.” The cross was found toppled on November 22 and a commemorative plaque was missing.
The Carrauntoohil Cross was located on a plot of land that is privately owned but open to the public for recreation. The metal cross was set up in 1976, replacing a wooden cross on the same site. A group of climbers quietly re-erected the metal cross a week after it was felled.
