Pope Francis pays tribute to Paul VI’s teaching on Mary

November 21, 2014

In a message to the Pontifical Marian International Academy, Pope Francis paid tribute to Blessed Paul VI’s Marian teaching and said that he, like his predecessor, has entrusted the Church to the Blessed Virgin’s intercession.

The Academy was hosting a conference devoted to Paul VI’s 1974 apostolic exhortation Marialis Cultus.

The Pontiff recalled that his predecessor wrote two encyclicals and three apostolic exhortations devoted to the Blessed Virgin and promoted devotion to her as the Mother of the Church.

Referring to Mary as tota pulchra (all beautiful), Pope Francis encouraged the theologians “to learn from Mary, to admire and contemplate her beauty,” so that she may lead us to “the fullness of authentic, infinite beauty, that of God.”
