Report: Islamic State has weapons to fight for up to 2 years
November 20, 2014
The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant has sufficient resources “to continuing fighting at current levels for six months to two years,” according to a new report from the UN Security Council.
The report was highlighted in a front-page article in the November 20 edition of the Vatican newspaper.
“ISIL is a self-sufficient organization with diversified funding streams,” according to the report. “It has seized considerable assets in both Iraq and the Syrian Arab Republic and benefits from a substantial continuing revenue flow gained from a range of sources, including the sale of crude oil, kidnapping for ransom, extortion and — to a lesser extent today — donations.”
