USCCB meeting: bishops approve translations, elect committee chairmen

November 12, 2014

In a meeting marked by little disagreement, the bishops of the United States approved, by large margins, a revised translation of Order of the Dedication of a Church and an Altar, the first English translation of the book of Exorcisms and Related Supplications, and modifications to the Revised Grail Psalter for use in a forthcoming revised translation of the Liturgy of the Hours.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Clergy, Consecrated Life and Vocations also released a new edition of its “Guidelines for Receiving Pastoral Ministers in the United States,” and several new committee chairmen were elected. Archbishop Allen Vigneron of Detroit will lead the Committee on Doctrine, and Cardinal Timothy Dolan will lead the Committee on Pro-Life Activities.

In addition, Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans was elected as the conference’s secretary.
