Italian bishops' leader says children have right to mother, father

Children have “the right to a father and a mother,” the president of the Italian bishops’ conference said in an address to an annual assembly.

Speaking about artificial methods of reproduction, Cardinal Angelo Bagnasco said that the rights of children should not be “subordinate to the desires of adults.” He said that it is “irresponsible” to encourage the acceptance of new models of household life that devalue the vital role of the family based on marriage.
