Bolivian President Morales meets with Pontiff

October 29, 2014

Pope Francis met informally with Bolivia's President Evo Morales on October 29.

Morales had traveled to Rome to participate in the International Meeting of Popular Movements, sponsored by the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. He met privately with Pope Francis after that meeting.

A Vatican announcement noted that the meeting was not organized through regular diplomatic channels. It was, the statement said, "an expression of affection and closeness to the Bolivian people and Church, and of support for the improvement of relations between the authorities and the Church within the country."
