Franciscan priest named Slovenia’s leading prelate
October 06, 2014
Over a year after Pope Francis accepted the resignations of both of Slovenia’s archbishops, who had amassed huge debts for their archdioceses with questionable investments, the Pontiff has named a Franciscan priest as the nation’s leading prelate.
Father Stane Zore, 56, is the new Archbishop of Ljubljana. The former rector of the national Marian shrine, he has served as his order’s minister provincial since 2011 and is also president of the nation’s conference of religious communities.
No appointment was announced for the nation’s other archdiocese (Maribor), which remains a vacant see.
