Catholic University cancels showing of Milk

October 02, 2014

Administrators at Catholic University of America directed a student organization not to show Milk, a 2008 film on the homosexual activist Harvey Milk.

The online news site Crux reported that staff cited “concern over the size of a rainbow flag on the flyer, as well as the event’s description: ‘Kick Off LGBT Awareness Month!’”

“I thought this was an incredibly asinine decision that the school made,” said the communications director of College Democrats, which intended to air the film.

1Jn416 - John Garvey is the head of CUA. He was previously the dean of BC Law where they had a professor who stood up for Catholic moral teaching in the press. Garvey said he was happy to have faculty members who would argue strenuously in support of homosexual marriage. Perhaps he has changed his ways, if so, why not just say that this movie is in contradiction to Church teachings and the students should have known better (if they don't, CUA needs remedial classes quick).

Defender - Living not far from Catholic University and occasionally seeing news about it, my impression is that the current president of the University is a solid Catholic, and that CUA is becoming more firm in its Catholic identity. This cancellation is a sign of that.

Harvey Milk was also a pederast and a statutory rapist and this movie was going to be shown at CUA? What goes on at "Catholic" schools anyway?
