England cardinal discusses mercy, indissolubility of marriage

In recent comments, Cardinal Vincent Nichols of Westminster described the upcoming Synod of Bishops as a “remarkable moment” in the Church’s life, one that will seek “to find ways to recreate a ‘culture of mercy’ in the Church.”

The synod, he added, will also deepen the Church’s appreciation of marriage’s indissolubility: “marriage can no more be dissolved than the Eucharist be returned to ordinary bread,” he said.
