Cardinal Burke: media 'trying to hijack' Synod discussions

September 23, 2014

Cardinal Raymond Burke charged that the mass media have been "trying to hijack" the Synod meeting in October, in which the assembled bishops will discuss the family.

The American cardinal-- who remains prefect of the Apostolic Signatura, despite reports that he will soon be transferred-- explained that "the media has created a situation in which people expect that there are going to be these major changes which would, in fact, constitute a change in Church teaching, which is impossible."

Cardinal Burke said that Church leaders must respond with clear teaching about marriage. "If we don't get it correct about marriage," he said, "there's very little else that we're going to be clear about."

    Pope Francis should speak out and confirm that Cardinal Burke will remain in his current position. He should clearly explain the other disturbing actions regarding Ratzinerian prelate changes. We have enough problems from enemies outside the Church without having needless bloodletting by the Pope against solid orthodox prelates like Burke;
