Bishops denounce new optional Israeli designation of Christians as ‘Arameans’

September 23, 2014

A commission of the Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land has denounced an Israeli government decision permitting Palestinian Christians to designate themselves as Arameans rather than as Arabs and thus enter the Israeli army.

“Some in the Israeli administration seem to think that separating Christian Palestinians from other Palestinians is a way to protect Christians,” the bishops’ justice and peace commission stated. “We say to these people, if you are sincere: first, give us back our homes, our properties, our villages and towns, all that you have confiscated.”

“To the few Christian Palestinian Arabs in Israel, who support this idea of changing their identity or serving in the Israeli army, we say: Come back to your senses,” the commission added. “Do not harm your people, because of idle promises and personal egoistic gain … Israel does not need Christians who have deformed their identity, who position themselves as enemy of their own people and who become soldiers for war.”

garedawg, Just look how many Christians have been forced out of Bethlehem by Muslims - there are very few anymore. When terrorists took over the Church of the Nativity a few years ago, they also showed their contempt for Christianity then, too.

jg23753479, tell that to the Arab Christians who have been kicked out of their villages by the Israelis. The state of Israel is not completely pure and holy in this affair.

Everyone should click the link and read what is again spewing from this bishop's office. jg23753479 is again correct and it is obvious that there is a great deal of distain for Israel but no mention, again of course, of Arab complicity to the violence. Telling Christians that they are almost traitors to the cause of "Palestine" and setting preconditions to be a good Palestinian is very indicative of their true attitude. No wonder our bishops return with such a one-sided attitude of the area.

Just more agit-prop from the same wing of the "Palestinian" crowd that identifies itself with the terrorists in Gaza, and feels for some reason that hating Israel is the shortest route to 'legitimizing' a Christian presence in the sea of Muslims on Israel's borders. They have been wrong in the past and they are just as wrong now.
