Papal committee begins work on reform of Vatican communications strategy

September 22, 2014

A papal committee charged with proposing an overhaul of the Vatican's media operations convened for the first time on September 22.

The committee, chaired by Lord Chris Patten, will devote its first meetings to organizing its work for the coming months. The committee will study the Vatican's communications strategy and suggest means of strengthening the efforts by Vatican Radio, L'Osservatore Romano, the Vatican Television center, and the Vatican press office. The group is expected to place a high priority on incorporating new strategies for communication through the social media.

There has been gross mistranslation by the Vatican's own Press Office, expected misinterpretation/misreporting by the media, and a shoot from the hip style of speaking by the Holy Father. But never mind any of that; what we will get is a committee to "study the Vatican's communications strategy".
