Kurdish forces free some Christian villages

September 17, 2014

Kurdish forces have driven the Islamic State out of seven Christian villages in northern Iraq, the AsiaNews service reports.

The Kurdish Peshmerga fighters said that American air support was essential in their successful campaign to gain control of the villages, located on the Nineveh plain. However they indicated that it would not yet be safe for refugees to return to the villages, since the Islamic State set mines in many homes before retreating.
