Catholic League pulls out of St. Patrick's day parade in New York

Bill Donohue, the head of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, has announced that his group is pulling out of the St. Patrick’s Day parade in New York, charging that he has been “betrayed by the parade committee.”
Donohue revealed that parade organizers had told him that they would change the rules for inclusion in the parade, allowing for homosexual activists but also allowing pro-life groups to march under their own banners. In fact, Donohue reports, there will be no pro-life groups allowed in the 2015 parade.
Anticipating that his withdrawal from the parade might be interpreted as a sign of opposition to Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who has accepted the gay group’s involvement, Donohue said that he has no quarrel with the cardinal. In fact, he said, “Cardinal Dolan has no more rabid supporter than Bill Donohue, and nothing that has transpired recently changes anything.”

Neither Donohue nor Dolan have ever impressed me. Then when they both agreed to the Gay thing I figured there had to be a reason. Their weighty roles are the common thread. Heavy weights for the anti-Catholic media are generally glib, loud and opinionated. St. P's Parade was a great Catholic identity Experience when I was a boy, but D and D should have walked away from it. Heavyweights sometimes suffer from what Bill Cosby called "Brain Damage" or simply "stupidity".

Donohue is doing the right thing by pulling out of the parade, but why does he support Timothy Cardinal Dolan?
