Albanian organizers rush to complete preparations for papal visit
September 08, 2014
Officials in Albania are making last-minute preparations for the visit by Pope Francis later this month, the ANSA news service reports.
Organizers in Albania have not completed the restoration of Mother Teresa Square, in central Tirana, where the Pontiff will celebrate Mass during his September 21 visit.
While the Pontiff travels to Albania, a country with a 70% Muslim population, speculation is mounting in Europe about a possible papal visit to Turkey, which is almost 98% Muslim. Orthodox Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople has invited the Pope to visit, but Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has not issued an official invitation.
