Cardinal George testing new anti-cancer drug

August 25, 2014

Cardinal Francis George is participating in the clinical trial of a new anti-cancer drug, the Chicago archdiocese has disclosed.

Cardinal George disclosed earlier this year that he is experiencing a recurrence of cancer that “will most probably eventually be the cause of my death.” Having been treated by chemotherapy, he is now one of the patients testing a new drug, which is designed to stimulate the body’s immune system to attack cancer cells.

Doctors have reported encouraging results from the new approach, the archdiocese said, and Cardinal George is hopeful about his treatment.
