52 priests laicized in England and Wales because of abuse, watchdog group reports

Since 2001, 52 priests in England and Wales have been laicized because of sexual abuse, the National Catholic Safeguarding Commission (NCSC) has disclosed.

The NCSC reported that 81 abuse charges were lodged last year, and 598 cases have been reported to civil authorities in the past decade. At the end of 2013, the group reported, there were 384 cases in which an individual had been placed under restrictions because of abuse charges.
