Novice raped by intruders in Indian convent

July 18, 2014

Church leaders in India have expressed outrage at the gang-rape of a 17-year-old novice in a convent in Bangalore, the AsiaNews service reports.

Archbishop Bernard Moras condemned the assault as a “barbaric and inhuman act” and a “shameful blot on the dignity of our women, society, and nation.”

The novice was alone in a convent when she heard a knock on the door. When she answered, three men dragged her outside and violated her.
