Vatican announces logo, theme for World Youth Day in Krakow

July 03, 2014

The Vatican has unveiled a logo, a theme, and a prayer for the 31st World Youth Day, which will be celebrated in 2016 in Krakow, Poland.

Krakow's Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz presided at a Vatican press conference on July 3, at which the logo and theme were introduced.

The logo shows an outline of the map of Poland, with a yellow circle marking Krakow, and a Cross from which the flame of Divine Mercy radiates. The logo is colored blue, red, and yellow: the colors of the coat of arms of Krakow.

The theme for the 31st World Youth Day is taken from the Gospel of St. Matthew (5:7): "Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy."
