The superior general of the Jesuit order has announced that he will step down in 2016.
Father Adolfo Nicolas disclosed that, with the approval of Pope Francis, he will resign in late 2016, when he will be 80 years old.
The Society of Jesus will hold its 36th general congregation sometime late in 2016 to elect a new superior general.
