Archbishop Chaput expects Pope to visit Philadelphia for September 2015 meeting

May 14, 2014

As Vatican officials toured Philadelphia, making plans for the World Meeting of Families that will be held their in September 2015, Archbishop Charles Chaput expressed confidence that Pope Francis would attend the event.

“There’s every indication he is coming,” the archbishop said. The Vatican has not yet issued a statement on whether the Pope will make the trip to Philadelphia, but in the past Pontiffs have regularly taken part in the World Meeting of Families.

Archbishop Vincenzo Paglia headed the Vatican delegation in Philadelphia. He is the president of the Pontifical Council for the Family, which sponsors the meeting. The archbishop met with Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, returning visits that the American political leaders had made to Rome earlier this year.
