Cardinal Sodano defends Pope following Küng criticism

Following a French newpaper interview in which dissident theologian Father Hans Küng criticized Catholic teaching and compared the Vatican to the Kremlin, Cardinal Angelo Sodano, dean of the College of Cardinals and retired secretary of state, came to Pope Benedict’s defense. “Fraternal criticism,” Cardinal Sodano told Vatican Radio, “has always been possible in the Church, from the times of Sts. Peter and Paul. Bitter criticism, on the other hand, especially when it's so broad, does not contribute to the unity of the Church, for which Pope Benedict is working so hard.”
