Baltimore's archbishop renews criticism of Legion of Christ
February 26, 2009
Baltimore's Archbishop Edwin O'Brien has called for an in-depth review of the structure and activities of the Legionaries of Christ, and told the group's superior that "he cannot in good conscience recommend that anyone join the Legion or Regnum Christi, its affiliated lay movement," reports the Baltimore archdiocesan newspaper. The archbishop told the Catholic Review: "This is not about orthodoxy. It is about respect for human dignity of each of its members." Last year Archbishop O'Brien had placed restrictions on the work of the Legionaries in his archdiocese and complained about the "lack of transparency" in the order.
