Russian Orthodox official: model proposed by ‘Western elites’ in decline

April 30, 2014

A leading Russian Orthodox official has told a Moscow radio station that the materialist model of development proposed by “Western elites” is in decline, according to an Interfax news agency report.

“I am sure that Western elites have lost the intellectual dispute,” said Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin, chairman of the Synodal Department for the Cooperation of Church and Society of the Moscow Patriarchate. “Yes, they still have more weapons and more money than other parts of the world, but they can’t answer anything to the question about the limit of growth. On the question about foundations of unfair powerful and economic dominan[ce], they’ve already lost the intellectual dispute.”

While the archpriest said he is not certain what will replace the materialist model, he stated that “I hope that at least we will be able to tell people quietly and calmly: you shouldn't live for material welfare, for egoistic desires, for preserving health, only for this earthily life, but to live, even at the level of social organization, for God’s truth. I hope that people will understand it more and more.”

Putin's an old KGB agent, trying to restore the old Soviet Union, invading his neighbors by proxy. Ukrainians deposed their former president, none of Putin's business. Instead he accused the new government of persecuting Russians,a lie,and started agitating inside this sovereign country, daring them to defend themselves. If they do,he invades. He will destroy that country and take it for himself. Maybe such intrigue was OK in Constantine's day,but invading others is not OK in our time! He's no saint!

Yes, "What is Truth?" The Soviet system fell more than two decades ago. Putin has been fostering Christianity in Russia because he knows that it is good for Russia. He saw that heavy taxation was hurting the economy so he lowered the tax rate to a flat 13%. He told the Gays to stay away from Russian children and put a stop to their demonstrating. He has spoken out against the persecution of Christians in the middle eastern countries. Putin sounds like a modern day Constantine to me.

God's truth? Does this "truth" include closing Catholic Churches, taking their church buildings, killing their hierarchy, clergy and people, as his friends in the Soviet Empire did, while his Russian Orthodox predecessors collaborated? Does it include invading others' countries, yet telling lies that you're not the aggressor, as his friend, Putin, did? Does it include telling the invaded not to even defend themselves because there's no hope? Indeed,in Pilate's words, what is "Truth"?
