Spanish royal couple meets with Pontiff

Pope Francis met on April 28 with King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, who had traveled to Rome for the canonizations of Sts. John Paul II and John XXIII.
A brief statement released by the Vatican after the Monday-morning meeting indicated that the conversation had centered on Church-state relations and the contributions of the Church to Spanish society. The Pope also spoke with the Spanish monarch about problems elsewhere in the world.
