Another surprise phone call: Pope encourages priest in Argentine slums
April 25, 2014
In another surprise phone call, Pope Francis has encouraged a priest working in the slums of Argentina.
Father Joaquin Nunez, who works with the poor in Rosario, says that he was awakened by the Pope’s call, and had a long conversation that was a “great joy” to him. Father Nunez, who was jailed and tortured during the years of military rule in Argentina, said that the Pope told him he stays current on news from the slums, and mourns “this tragedy of violence and drug trafficking that forces us to bury the young daily.”
