Chaldean prelate, in Easter message, asks peaceful future for Iraq

April 16, 2014

Iraq’s leading Catholic prelate has issued an Easter prayer for “an end to the suffering of our people.”

Chaldean Catholic Patriarch Louis Raphael Sako urged the faithful to keep their eyes fixed on Jesus during the Easter season. “Even in the darkest hours, his resurrection rises like the sun on us and on mankind,” he said. The Patriarch added that with confidence in Christ, “no one is in a position to feel threatened.”

The Chaldean prelate went on, later in his message, to encourage Christians to make their voices heard in the country’s coming elections. "We need to participate in the upcoming vote in large numbers, with a spirit of responsibility,” he said.

My prayers are added to his. I wonder what keeps these Christians there. I honor their courage if they are staying to serve as examples of a strong faith.
