Rome is top choice for 'religious tourism' in Italy

The Vatican is an increasingly popular destination for Italian vacationers, according to tour guides, who attribute the trend to the popularity of Pope Francis.
Among Italians traveling for holidays or long weekends, a growing proportion are classified as "religious tourists," the ANSA news service reports. Of these, more than one-third will be heading for Rome.
